Pipe 045 - Paneled Rhodeskimo - Not For Sale
This pipe was carved for the Kansas City Pipe Club Pipe Carver's Contest. The pipe did not make the final cut for the 7-day set, but I am proud of it just the same. There were close to 50 entries this year, so I'm just happy to have been a part of the contest and the show. The Greater Kansas City Pipe Club does an excellent job with both.
For this year's contest the pipe had to be "paneled" - for the contest requirements, that meant a minimum of two flat sides. This pipe has 8 flats around the bowl, a flat area on the bottom to make it a sitter, and then 3 more small flats at the bottom, front edge of the bowl where it transitions to the bottom of the pipe, and finally - the sides of the shank are flat as the shank transitions from top to bottom. The grain is good, but not exceptional. The same can be said for the birdseye.... a very time-consuming pipe to make.
I think I will keep this one!
